Countdown

308 days since Race 4 (1/2 Marathon).

Focus switches to 6Km 22:00 barrier

Initially Team England had set a target of 22:30 for the 6Km race due to run at the end of this month. However, it now looks as if this target will have to revised after a new 6Km PB was set in today's training session. In 30C conditions the team put in a fine performance to post a time of 22:41.1, around a minute outside their all time best for 6Km. With 26 days to go until the race, it looks as if sub 22:00 is a real possibility.

Aussies smash 6k 25 minute barrier

With the next event being a 6k race, to be held at the end of the month, the Aussie team has switched training focus. In order to have a benchmark from which to improve, the team rowed their first 6k distance this morning.

Being the first 6k row for the year, a realistic 25 minute goal was set. Not only did the team manage to go under this mark, but also found it a trivial exercise to go under 24 minutes as well. A steady 2min/500 pace was started and maintained for the duration, resulting in a comfortable 23:47.4.

Disappointing session for Team England

Team England began their training for the 6Km race today with what can only be described as disappointing session. This was the first session in which the team have used the RowPro software to monitor performance, and it maybe this that caused them to under perform. Although the session yielded a further 7Km for the rowing total, and just over 2Km for the cycling total (the team cycled to and from the training camp) - they failed to break the 23:00 minute barrier, posting a time of 23:10.3 for 6Km (1:55.9/500).

Last minute .NET framework error saves Aussies from online embarrasment

Just minutes before Sundays race, the Aussies experienced a mysterious ".NET error" which meant head-to-head online racing could not take place. Why the Aussies left the software setup to the last minute remains a mystery. However during a conversation earlier in the week, the Australian team captain did express concerns that going head to head with the English team would be tough. Whatever the real reason behind the mysterious ".NET error", it looks like the Aussies where spared an embarrassing online spectacle. Lets just hope they get over the defeat quickly....

Missing connector miracuosly found

Just minutes after the 2000m race, the England Team found the connector that prevented the race taking place online. The England team had already expressed concerns about a true head-to-head event because of the superior will power present in the Australian Team. Draw your own conclusions.

Aussies fight back with sub 7min 2000m

In a gut wrenching (literally) session, the Aussie team have hit back with a sub 7 minute 2km row.

The 6:58.6 result was logged first thing Monday morning, less than 24 hours after a 60km bike ride. The time was recorded at the Melbourne facility and was performed by the team's number 2 athlete, Shayne Hanks, a first cousin of Gavin's.

Team England break 7 minute barrier and Aussie Team in one go

Yesterday saw a stunning performance by Team England in the 2Km race to see them stroll to victory over the Aussie team, in what is their least favourite race distance. In fact earlier in the month the English team where already setting their sights on the longer distances, expecting the Aussie team to take out the 2Km race with one of their typical do or die efforts. However it looks like the Aussie team failed to turn up, finishing some 16.8 seconds behind (approx 80 meters),as Team England broke the 7:00 minute barrier for the first time this year.

Half Marathon costs Aussie Race 1

With less than 2 days recovery since rowing a 1/2 marathon, the Aussie team put up a brave effort to post a PB in the 2km event. However, the PB was not enough to win the race; a great effort by the England team to break the 7 minute barrier and take out the race.

Look out for the next race, the 6km, when the Aussie team will be fully prepared i.e. no 1/2 marathon 2 days before the event!

The Aussies: 7:16.3
The Others: 6:59.5

Gracious England conceed points

The English team have conceded the points for the first milestone event. It appears the Aussies just sneaked it by a few minutes in typical do or die fashion. It has to be questioned if this was a sensible approach with the 2KM race less than 2 days away - time will tell.

During an emergency meeting of the Chuzwoza competition committee some rule changes where agreed after the Aussies finally saw sense and conceded the Timezone issue could give them an unfair advantage. The following two points agreed:

Who was first?

Regardless of the timezone issue, it still unclear who completed the 100Km first - Team England completed their 10Km row at around noon local time.
